WELCOME TO J SQUARED’S MUSIC and thank you for visiting my site! My goal here is to share my knowledge and experience with music appreciators, educators, and aspiring musicians of all ages and levels! I teach Clarinet for beginners all the way to the High School level and can teach beginning theory as well. I’ve played Clarinet for 25 years, 16 of which have been professionally. I’ve played with groups like the Starlight Symphony, The Hillcountry Community Band, SMHS productions, Austin Civic Orchestra, The Wimberley Players, and currently S.M.A.R.T. Orchestra in San Marcos. I studied Clarinet under the direction of Gordon Sabin at SMHS and David Pino at Texas State University. I studied Music Education and participated in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic, Concert, Marching and Basketball bands. I was an active member of the music fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi. I was a Drum Major at SMHS and a graduate of the class of 1999. I currently teach for a private school-The Music Retreat at Willow Creek. You can find their link under the “lessons” tab. I also play Tenor, Alto, and Soprano sax and am learning flute. I like to arrange and compose small ensemble works (mostly solos, duets, trios, quartets and quintets, but I love a challenge) that are not typical. I like to work on pops (popular) music that you probably can’t find elsewhere in the instrumentation of my choice. I also take requests, and depending on the number of instruments and the length of the song, can usually produce a score in as soon as a week. I’ll be updating my site, as it’s brand new and obviously under construction. Listen to one of my first completed works. It’s an arrangement from the NBC show SMASH called “Let me be your star”. It’s a quartet for 2 clarinets and a bassoon. More to come!!!
